The Nike Cortez was Nike's first running shoe, launched in 1972, and was a major part of the company's success. The Nike Cortez was first designed by Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman, with the goal of producing a comfortable and durable running shoe for long-distance training and road running. The Nike Cortez was launched on the heels of the 1972 Summer Olympics and quickly gained interest from the general public.

Please note that the Nike Cortez is not the same as the Nike Corteiz, which is a collaboration between Nike and the new underground brand Corteiz from London.
